چکیده

This paper provides the convex hull description for the basic operation of slowand quick-start units in power-based unit commitment (UC) problems. The basic operating constraints that are modeled for both types of units are (1) generation limits and (2) minimum up and down times. Apart from this, the startup and shutdown processes are also modeled, using (3) startup and shutdown power trajectories for slow-start units, and (4) startup and shutdown capabilities for quick-start units. In the conventional UC problem, power schedules are used to represent the staircase energy schedule; however, this simplification leads to infeasible energy delivery, as stated in the literature. To overcome this drawback, this paper provides a power-based UC formulation drawing a clear distinction between power and energy. The proposed The work of G. Security-Constrained Unit Commitment Considering Large-Scale Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) Integrated With Wind Power Generation

Environmental concerns and depletion of nonrenewable resources has made great interest towards renewable energy resources. Cleanness and high potential are factors that caused fast growth of wind energy. However, the stochastic nature of wind energy makes the presence of energy storage systems (ESS) in wind integrated power systems, inevitable. Due to capability of being used in large-scale sys...

Security Constrained Unit Commitment in the Simultaneous Presence of Demand Response Sources and Electric Vehicles

Due to the ever-growing load, especially peak load, the increase in the capacity of plants is inevitable for the response to this growth. Peak load causes increases in customer costs and vast investments in generating and transmission parts. Therefore, restructuring in the electrical industry, competition in the electrical market and Demand Response Programs (DRPs) are of special importance in ...

The Effects of Electricity Boiler on Integrated CCHP-Thermal-Heat Only Unit Commitment Problem Based on Hybrid GA Approach

Combined cooling, heat, and power (CCHP) units can be integrated with conventional separate cooling, heat, and power production units to meet demands. The goal of this study is to develop and examine a hybrid GA-heuristic optimization algorithm for solving the unit commitment problem for integrated CCHP-thermal-heat only system with considerations for electricity boiler. When environmental emis...

Tight MIP formulations for bounded up/down times and interval-dependent start-ups

Switching machines on and off is an important aspect of unit commitment problems and production planning problems, among others. Here we study tight mixed integer programming formulations for two aspects of such problems: bounded length onand off-intervals, and interval-dependent start-ups. For the problem with both these aspects we develop a tight (convex hull) formulation involving additional...

An adaptive modified firefly algorithm to unit commitment problem for large-scale power systems

Unit commitment (UC) problem tries to schedule output power of generation units to meet the system demand for the next several hours at minimum cost. UC adds a time dimension to the economic dispatch problem with the additional choice of turning generators to be on or off.  In this paper, in order to improve both the exploitation and exploration abilities of the firefly algorithm (FA), a new mo...
